Laser Acupuncture Bio-Feedback for allergy treatment (real tongue twister) is new form of allergy treatment now offered here in the US. It has been used successfully in Europe and Australia for a number of years. Although it is newly used for the treatment of allergies, bio-feedback itself has been used for many years. Biofeedback is the process of becoming aware of various physiological functions using instruments that provide information on the activity of those same systems. The goal of using is to learn to manipulate physiologic systems at will. Biofeedback is commonly used to improve health and performance as well as to allow people to learn how to make physiological changes simply by changing their thoughts, emotions and behavior. As we the individual learns how to change their body, emotions and physiologic behaviors these changes eventually are learned and can be maintained without the use of the Bio-Feedback equipment. Essentially, you’re re-training the body to function a different way, in this case the purpose is to re-train the body NOT to react to allergies.
Seasonal allergies affect more than 35 million Americans each year. We all know the symptoms sneezing, wheezing, runny nose and itchy, watery, red eyes. These reactions occur, because your body is reacting to these harmless molecules of pollen floating in the air, just as they would a foreign invader like a common cold.
Whenever you come in contact with the trillions upon trillions of pollens particles floating in the air, your body will produce antibodies just as it would for any foreign threat. These antibodies attach themselves to mast cells, which contain a variety of neuro and exciter chemicals, including histamines. Histamines circulate all through your body causing many of the symptoms associated with an allergic reactions. They can affect your nose, lungs, throat, skin and even your digestive tract. These allergic reactions will depend on which allergen (eg pollen or even eating peanuts) you are exposed to. While some symptoms develop within minutes, others may take hours to appear. These symptoms are caused both by your body trying to prevent these foreign invader from entering into your body and because of defensive mechanisms your body is using to expel those allergens that have already entered into your body.
Allergies therefore are due to the reaction of your immune system trying to protect and defend you. With time, these allergic responses become“hard-wired ” into your body and they learn to respond faster and harder each time you are exposed to any of these foreign invaders.
