Chiropractic is one of the most popular forms of natural health care in the world.
Chiropractors work with the nerves, muscles and joints in the body. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, chiropractors also have extensive training in nutrition, radiology and physical therapy. The goal of chiropractic is to maximize the health or function of the whole body utilizing safe, conservative treatment methods. At La Quinta Chiropractic we’ll get to the root of the problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. We service Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Sun City.
How Does Chiropractic Adjustments Work?
Have you ever had a pebble in your shoe? A tiny pebble, because of its constant irritation of a nerve, can cause a lot of irritation. At first it feels like a mild pressure, then an irritation, and finally, pain. Does this sound familiar?
So what did you do about the pebble? You took your shoe off and took it out, right?
If you knew someone who was taking a medication for pain or irritation from a pebble in their shoe you would think they were crazy, right? If you have a physical problem (pebble) causing irritation to a nerve why would you think that there would be a chemical solution? That would not be logical.
Most people know that the best way to stop the pain and irritation caused from a pebble in their shoe is to remove the pebble. They know it is a physical problem causing the irritation, and thus requires a physical solution. That is the basic philosophy behind chiropractic.
Chiropractors work with “pinched nerves” in the body and treat patients without the use of drugs or surgery. When it comes to treating pain in muscles and joints, chiropractors are the best.
Do Chiropractors Only Treat The Back?
No! Chiropractors most frequently treat “musculoskeletal” complaints. This can be any ache or pain in a muscle, joint or nerve in the body. Chiropractors are most famous for achieving great results with back and neck pain, but also treat conditions such as: headaches, ankle sprains, whiplash injuries, and injuries to the shoulders, elbows, knees and wrists.
Many people initially visit a chiropractic clinics to be treated for pain, but often see other symptoms improve during the course of treatment. Some of these symptoms include: asthma, allergies, acid reflux, fatigue, stress, infertility, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation. The reason for this is simple. Chiropractors work not only with the muscles and joints, but also with the nervous system which controls all of the functions within the body. If you are not sure if chiropractic can help your particular condition, give us a call today to receive a complimentary consultation to determine if chiropractic care is right for you. We primarily service people from Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Sun City and Indio.
What Is A Subluxation?
This a description of any joint dysfunction. It can be described as an incomplete or partial dislocation. Now just like any joint in your body, the ones in your spine (vertebra) are connected by ligaments (disc). When these bones get displaced slightly they will cause these ligaments to stretch and create inflammation (swelling). In the spine this will then irritate the nerves in the area and may cause pain or just decreased function. The symptoms of this can be: numbness, tingling, sciatica, sharp pain, dull pain, weakness, altered organ function or nothing at all.
The symptom (usually pain) is the last thing to show up because the nerves inside your body are not created for pain. This is because over 90% are made for function, i.e. controlling your hormones, digestion, heart, etc.
For example, you have all heard of the perfectly healthy 40 year old male who died of a heart attack. Do you think his heart was functioning at 100% before he had his heart attack? Was he having heart pain before his heart attack? Most of the time, the first symptom of a heart attack is a heart attack. So if you waited until you started having heart pain before you started eating healthy and exercising it wouldn’t be very smart would it?
The best way to find out if you have a subluxation is to make an appointment with an N2Health Chiropractor. We primarily service people from Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Sun City and Indio.
What Is An Chiropractic Adjustment?
There are many different ways of performing the chiropractic adjustment. The method we chose to deliver this is based upon the principles of mechanical engineering. We will place a specific gentile force in a specific direction and torque to move the bone the right direction.
Is Chiropractic Care safe?
Yes, chiropractic care is very safe. The research shows this over and over again. Just ask your Chiropractor how much his malpractice insurance is. Chiropractors will pay about 1/10 as much as Medical Doctors and about 1/100 as much as a Surgeons. The higher the risk of the procedure any doctor will perform, the higher the insurance rate.
A neurosurgeon will pay much more than a Chiropractor, Acupuncturist or Dentist because the risk is quite low compared to surgery. It is just like car insurance; if you have a poor driving history and drive a convertible porsche 911, you car insurance will be high. This is because it is more of a risk for the insurance company to take you. They don’t play favorites, they just assess risk and that is how insurance companies make money.
There are many research articles that have been done, but here are a couple. This study, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. This article concluded that a chiropractic neck adjustment was several hundred more times safer than taking NSAIDs for neck pain (i.e. aspirin or ibuprofen statistically carries a greater risk than a neck adjustment).
A recent study published in the journal Spine. “found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.” 2. Cassidy JD, Noyle E, Cote P, et al: Risk of Vertebrobasilar Stroke in Chiropractic Care. Spine 2008:33(4S):S176-S18 This study can be found in SPINE .
Conclusion: VBA stroke is a very rare event in the population. The increased risks of VBA stroke associated with chiropractic and PCP visits is likely due to patients with headache and neck pain from VBA dissection seeking care before their stroke. We found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.
Is An Chiropractic Adjustment Painful?
Although each patient reacts differently, the procedure is rarely painful. It can cause a variety of reactions from temporary soreness (like the first time you do a new exercise) to a sense of relief and well-being.
How Are Chiropractors Trained?
Our doctors have trained at SCUHS. In Chiropractic school alone they have had well over 5000 hours of training plus an internship. All chiropractors will go to undergraduate school to finish their prerequisite courses before they apply to any college. Their training will include courses in anatomy, physiology, pathology, diagnosis, laboratory and nutrition. In addition to their academic training, chiropractors also participate in an intensive post-graduate internship program.
How Long Can I Expect To Be Under Chiropractic Care?
How long and how often you see a chiropractor will depend on several factors: your age, physical condition, previous history of accidents or surgeries, occupational requirements and how well you adhere to our treatment program. Pain relief usually happens quickly (within a month),though stabilizing your condition may take longer. This will be discussed with you before you start treatment. Using our unique combination of Acupuncture, Nutrition and Physical Therapy Exercises along with the structural treatment we can speed this process up though.
